Programme for private capital · Coordinates

Private capital control, read as a report.

A common operating model for portfolios where every company was built by somebody else.

A technology portfolio is not a sum of companies. It is a set of decisions taken by different teams, in different years, under different pressures — and then inherited all at once.

What a committee lacks is rarely information. It is comparability: the same question put the same way to every company, on the same answer scale, so that the difference between them means something.

This document shows the instrument, not a portfolio. The matrix is declared as an example inside each of the three plates, and the findings printed beside it are computed from that example.

The portfolio

One line per position, one column per control dimension. The diameter of the mark is the declared reading. At this magnification no company is legible on its own — which is the point: the first thing a portfolio shows is its own unevenness.

How the matrix is taken.

The matrix is not a questionnaire answered by the companies. It is a survey run under the same protocol in every one of them, and that is what makes the lines comparable to each other.

4.1

When it applies

  1. 4.1.1Multiple companies with uneven maturity
  2. 4.1.2Limited visibility across investments
  3. 4.1.3Recurring acquisition integration
  4. 4.1.4A need for board-level comparison

4.2

The work

  1. 4.2.1Establish a shared baseline
  2. 4.2.2Prioritise remediation company by company
  3. 4.2.3Coordinate standards and partners
  4. 4.2.4Report risk and value creation

4.3

What stays with the client

  1. 4.3.1Portfolio scorecard
  2. 4.3.2Roadmaps per company
  3. 4.3.3Common control baseline
  4. 4.3.4100-day playbooks
  5. 4.3.5Investment committee reporting
  6. 4.3.6Crisis coordination model

Expected business outcomes

  • A comparable view
  • Economies of scale
  • Faster post-deal control
  • Greater exit readiness

The programme can be engaged for a single company or for the whole portfolio. The reading scale is the same in both cases.

Notes

  1. The matrix reproduced on plates 01 to 03 is an example built to demonstrate the instrument. No position corresponds to a real company, and no number on this page describes a client, a fund or a result.

  2. The findings printed on plate 03 are computed from the example matrix — the count of dimensions below baseline, the extreme readings and the spread across positions. They are verifiable statements about the example, and about nothing else.

  3. A reading of your own portfolio is run under confidentiality and starts with a conversation:
